Second Semester
started with a visit to Budaya festival, an event organised by BersaMaju, in Filmhuis Alkmaar. A screening of various films about colonial times in Indonesia. I went to Sweet Dreams; Tumultuous events triggered by the death of a Dutch sugar plantation owner who ends up leaving his Indian Ocean island estate to his young illegitimate son.
The film left quite an impression, with immersive sound and visuals. After the film there was an opportunity to talk to the actors. Of course there was food and drinks. While eating I spoke to one of the organisers, and we talked about history and the importance of family and sharing stories.
I included visits in my portfolio that influenced or shared topics of my research.
